In Japan a JetSimly eSIM uses the KDDI/au, NTT docomo, Rakuten Mobile and SoftBank networks (4G/5G). All plans can be topped up. The 50 GB / 180 days plan runs on NTT docomo only.

Plans

  • Fixed-data: 1 GB / 7 days, 3 GB / 30 days, 5 GB / 30 days, 10 GB / 30 days, 20 GB / 30 days, 50 GB / 30 days and 50 GB / 180 days.
  • Daily: 1, 3, 5, 7 and 10 days. You get 2 GB a day at full speed; after that the speed drops to 1 Mbps, and the allowance resets about every 24 hours; the exact time can vary.

How to choose

You can see your daily use in your phone's cellular data counter. Under 2 GB a day, a fixed-data plan will do; above that a daily plan fits better, with 14 GB in total at full speed on a 7-day plan. Hotspot is on in every plan and no ID is needed. The plan starts the first time you connect to a network in Japan.

What the official sources say

The Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) describes eSIMs and pocket Wi-Fi as especially convenient for short-term visitors (japan.travel FAQ). JNTO's SIM guide also says the phone you use in Japan must be SIM-free (JNTO Mobile Tips); that page describes physical SIM cards and does not mention eSIM. Ask your carrier whether your phone is unlocked. Sources checked on 19 October 2026.

If you are also visiting South Korea, there is a Japan & South Korea plan. For a wider Asia route there is also the Asia (12 countries) plan, which includes Japan. All plans: Japan eSIM.
